Every shoe on this site is rated using the R.A.C.E. Scoring Methodology — a weighted four-pillar system that measures what actually matters on race day.
Racing Shoe Guide is edited by a runner with more than ten years of training and several marathons on the calendar — the kind of background that makes stack height, drop, and late-race stability feel less abstract. The site exists to turn scattered specs and launch hype into one consistent, rules-based scorecard, built from public data and careful synthesis rather than brand talking points. Each shoe is scored across four pillars and combined into a single weighted score out of 10: Return (35%) — energy return, foam resilience, and carbon plate propulsion (how foam energy return works →). Anatomy (25%) — upper fit, midfoot lockdown, breathability, and blister prevention. Chassis (25%) — ride geometry, inherent stability, and heel-to-toe transition. Economy (15%) — weight-to-cushion ratio and overall running economy improvement. Key terms: carbon plate running shoe glossary →.
We do not claim to have independently wear-tested every shoe in a private lab. Reviews and scores are research-led: published manufacturer specs and materials, patterns from multiple independent reviews and long-term wear reports, elite and mass-field race usage where documented, and peer-reviewed running-economy literature where it applies to a model or foam class. Judgment calls are framed as editorial interpretation of that evidence — not as undisclosed single-tester impressions. Where peer-reviewed lab data exists (for example measured running-economy ranges for a foam or shoe class), it can inform the Return pillar. No brand pays to influence scores or rankings.
All scores use men's reference sizing as the baseline unless explicitly noted. Women's versions may differ in weight and fit — always check the specific specs before purchasing.
Scores are reviewed whenever a new model launches or significant new lab data becomes available. The date of last review is recorded in our page metadata. If you believe a score is outdated, contact us.
